Swine Flu Vaccine??
Just wondering how many of you are planning on getting this vaccine? It worries me, because I work part time in a day care, where if it’s going around, you’re gonna catch it there. I don’t want to bring it home, since I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old of my own who do NOT go to day care, and really don’t have any exposure at all to other kids unless I take them to Sunday School. So I’m wondering if I should get the vaccine, and if I should get it for my kids. Is it a weakened or a dead virus? I just don’t want to risk them getting super-sick! Plus it makes me nervous, because I’m not sure how safe the vaccination is. Just wanting to hear some other people’s thoughts on this subject….
As of right now I’m not getting it. There are Doctors on Fox news that won’t take it or give it to their kids because its to new, there’s to much metal in it etc’ when they did it back in the 70’s a lot of people died from it. But this is my opinion and you asked for it
so I don’t want a bunch of hate mail from others who read this! Thanks
Shaina
I won’t be getting it nor are my kids. Now I have a friend who’s child is high risk and has bad lungs and yes she is getting it. it depends how healthy my kid is. My son had the sniffles once. shelby had the flu (Lord knows if it was the swine flu or not) and jak never even got sick. So no in my house noone is getting that shot. we did not or will get the regular flu shot and so why get the swine flu shot..? Ultimately it is up to you but for me it is a NO.
I have a thing about shots as is. I selectively vaccinate as well..
oh here is a link

Now I am not one of those who thinks a child gets autism from vaccines but the info is still valid and good about he H1N1 shot..
If the vaccines are available, we will do it. I hear that healthy young females are actually a high risk group for it, and the last thing I need is a swine flu. Being a daily public transit user, having a baby in day care and husband teaching in a high school we have all sorts of way to contract viruses. My 3 yo will get it too if they have a pediatric version. I always chose to vaccinate, as I trust this method of preventing various deseases.
Honestly the biggest risks with vaccinations are the added stuff they put into it which the stuff they use to make the H1N1 is the exact same as the seasonal flu.
I think it is perfectly safe BUT I also don’t think everyone needs it. I would say if you fall into the risk group or are around the high risk groups then I would get it. I am getting it but my friends who are single and are never around children I don’t think should get it.
It is basically just like any seasonal flu but with the H1N1 virus instead of whatever the seasonal one is.
The nasal vaccine is a live virus and the shot is dead. I would only get the shot…don’t want to risk it because you can get the disease from the live virus, it would be weakened but still.
Oh and the vaccines have thimersol in them which is also known asethyl mercury and that is different than methyl mercury which is what that autism link is referring to…so that is just plain inaccurate.

You can’t even use methyl mercury in anything anymore because it’s so toxic.
Sorry but I am just a big stickler on health information being accurate since I am a pharmacist.
I initially assumed it was too new as well, but then my husband brought up the point that these flu vaccines are basically just dead virus. I’m aware that substances are added to them, but not completely sure what all they are and what problems they may cause. My children do get all available vaccines on schedule at their pediatrician, as I also believe it’s the most effective way to prevent diseases.
Thanks, Kylie, for the corrected info on the mercury; it’s important to have accurate information when making important decisions!
cool see there was a reason I came to this blog again I learned something today. thanks Holly.. still won’t get it. heck when we were kids we did not have it and all was well
I have school-aged kids and they are one of the groups most affected, so they will be getting it, if available, My ped doesn’t have it yet, so we’ll see. My hubby and I will also get it if we can. Last thing I need in my hectic life is swine flu!
I am not getting it, I never get a flu shot. I just think there is nothing wrong with getting the flu and I heard from several sources that the H1N1 flu is not as bad as the media would like us to believe. I have school aged kids too but again.. we never get flu shots.
I would wait and see what more statistics show later on down the road. Plus in line of work I am in most people don’t know this, but bleach will kill the swine flu. So if you have air purifior you can add bleach to it and it will kill the air virus and then you can still wipe everything down with bleach to help kick it on the surfaces. Hope maybe that will help a little and put you at easy. But I would say wait a little while longer.
I like to get a flu shot every year because they are saying if you got the 2007-2008 flu shot you already are 75% protected against the swine flu. I bet one day when we have a pandemic those who got shots over the years will have an advantage…that is just my personal thoughts. Just like the people in the 1970s have some immunity to this new swine flu because of before.
with dead virus over the real thing.
I like to challenge my immune system
I remember when I was a kid (I’m 25) I got taken over to my friends to get chickenpox and now they give the vaccine because some kids died from it I guess….crazy.
I am also a big believer that everyone should get an updated tetanus and diptheria shot since diptheria is rampid again. It kills little kids but just makes us get a bad cough. Most vaccines are to protect kids, not adults anyways.
I will not get the flu shot, never have and never will.
MISSED YOU!
I am a nurse, and I have never had a flu shot..and I dont ever plan too. Especially not the H1N1. I also don’t believe in getting the chicken pox shot.
Aside from working in high potential areas to catch the flu…lets not forget about going to the local Wal-Mart..all kinds of stuff swireling around in that place!! YUCK!
Keep the hand sanitizer close..and wash those hands frequently!
From what I can tell, H1N1 really *isn’t* as bad as it first seemed. ALL of the kids DO get really REALLY high fevers though, like 104-106. I would FREAK OUT if my kid ran a fever that high! My spray can of Lysol says it kills swine flu virus.
lol That stuff is good for everything! I spray it all over the place when I’m at Wal Mart, and nobody’s said anything to me so far. I bet they appreciate it! lol
There’s nothing wrong with getting the flu, if you have a week or two you can sit out of work, AND a week or two to sit out with your kids, if they get it after you.
The financial/economic impact worries me as much as, if not more than, the physical impact. I can afford to stay home from work, but if my husband catches it, we’re gonna have a hard time paying the bills. (Vacation time is used up!)
I’ve had flu shots several times in the past. I don’t know if maybe they result in an overall increased activity in your immune system, but the years that I get them, I seem to be less “sick” in general… fewer colds, etc. I think they’re a good thing in general, but the H1N1 vaccine just worried me because it came out so quickly.
There are a lot more people here opposed to vaccinations that I thought there would be. Thanks for sharing your opinions with me guys!
